A 15-year-old boy was arrested in connection to a series of highway violations during a RIDE lane enforcement initiative early Thursday morning.

At around 2:30 a.m. Hamilton police conducted a RIDE Lane vehicle checkpoint on Lawrence Road in Hamilton.

Officers say a black Honda Odyssey ran right through the checkpoint at a high rate of speed, nearly missing law enforcement at the scene.

Police then gave chase before the Honda eventually came to a stop.

The 15-year-old driver was taken into custody without incident.

The name of the boy has been withheld, adhering to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Investigators say the boy was in breach of a court-ordered release condition that required him to stay at home during overnight hours unless he was with his surety.

The teenager is now facing charges including one offence of dangerous operation, one offence of fleeing from a peace officer, and one offence of failing to comply with a release order.

He is expected to appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.

Anyone with further information related to this incident is asked to contact police or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
