Hamilton police are appealing to the public to help find the suspects involved in the city’s most recent distraction theft.

Officers were called on Monday to the area of Queenston and Nash roads for a report of jewelry theft.

An 89-year-old woman was loading groceries in a nearby parking lot when she was approached by a male and female in a newer-model, black Mazda SUV.

Detectives said the pair engaged with the victim, then questioned her on her ethnicity.

They took turns placing jewelry on her and even leaned in for a hug.

Once the victim arrived home, she noticed that her own jewelry had been removed.

Police are asking anyone who may have been driving on Queenston Road between Centennial Parkway and the Red Hill Valley Parkway between the hours of 1:10 p.m. to 1:25 p.m. to please check their dashcams for the black Mazda SUV.

If you have any information that you believe will assist this investigation, please contact Det. Sgt. David Brewster.

To submit information anonymously, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visit Crime Stoppers Hamilton.
