Of all the ice-bucket challenge participants you may have seen lately, few deserve a nice cool down more than one Hamilton man.
Brian McSweeney and family got a nice icy reward after cycling over 300 kilometres to raise money for ALS. The ride which started in Tobermory Saturday and ended Sunday afternoon at Hamilton’s Pier 4 Park was inspired by McSweeney’s father. Al McSweeney fought ALS for 21 years. Saturday would have been his 89-th birthday.
Friends and family printed t-shirts and got the word out. They’ve already raised $5000 toward their $10,000 goal. McSweeney says it’s a cause that needs all the help it can get.
“Its a worthwhile cause. It’s a devastating disease that spreads very quickly sometimes. It’s very difficult on families.”
McSweeney says his fundraising for ALS likely doesn’t end here. He’s considering another ride for the cause next summer. Information on how to donate to his campaign can be found below.
