Hamilton man charged in shooting at Beamsville home while residents were asleep

Police have charged a Hamilton man accused of shooting at a house in Beamsville while the residents were asleep inside in May.

Investigators say the incident happened on May 20 around 11:35 p.m. when a man drove a stolen white Hyundai Santa Fe SUV to a home on Central Avenue between John and Jackson streets.

Officers say the man used a handgun to fire nearly eight shots at a house and parked car.

Two minutes later, he sped away in the vehicle northbound on Central Avenue.

Police say the stolen vehicle was later recovered in Hamilton.

The residents inside the home were not injured, officers say.

Niagara police say 20-year-old Salomon Bashir has been arrested and charged with discharge firearm with intent to wound, endanger life or prevent arrest, carry concealed weapon, and assault with a weapon.

Bashir is currently in the custody of Ontario Correctional Services on an unrelated matter.

He is scheduled to appear in a St. Catharines courthouse on Nov. 6.
