Man dead, woman charged with impaired driving in Niagara Falls crash

A 25-year-old woman is facing impaired driving charges following a collision Tuesday that claimed the life of a Thorold man.

Police say the two-vehicle crash happened shortly after 8 a.m. on Beaverdams Road between Beechwood and Garner roads in Niagara Falls.

Investigators say a white 2009 Mercedes-Benz C350 travelling west on Beaverdams Road collided with an eastbound beige 2009 Toyota Camry.

A 67-year-old man driving the Toyota was taken to hospital, where he later died of his serious injuries.

Police say the woman driving the Mercedes-Benz was impaired. She did not sustain any injuries that required hospitalization as a result of the crash.

Zoey Anne Marie Hughes of Niagara Falls has been arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and impaired operation of a motor vehicle exceeding blood alcohol concentration.

She is being held pending a bail hearing scheduled for later Tuesday at a St. Catharines courthouse.

Beaverdams Road is closed between Beechwood and Garner roads for an investigation.

Niagara police’s forensics and collision reconstruction units are investigating.
