Hamilton man charged in sexual assault of a ‘vulnerable’ young person

Hamilton police have arrested a 32-year-old man after an investigation into the sexual assault of a “vulnerable” young person earlier this month.

Detectives say that they received a report on Oct. 9, of a young person being picked up by a man in a dark vehicle in the area of Barton Street and Gage Avenue.

The victim reportedly says they were compelled to take an unknown substance before they were sexually assaulted.

Police say 32-year-old Vintchentso Atanassov of Hamilton was arrested and charged with:

  • Two counts of failure to comply with probation
  • Sexual assault
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Disguise with intent
  • Use of firearm or imitation during an offence
  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Administer noxious thing
  • Uttering threats to cause death

Investigators conducted a search of Atanassov’s home where they seized a BB rifle, handgun and 44 grams of methamphetamine.

Police say the charges for failure to comply come as a result of the accused’s failure to follow a weapons probation order and keep the peace and be of good behaviour order.
