Niagara police charged a Hamilton man Monday evening in connection to an overnight vehicle theft in the Town of Grimsby.

Officers say a 2019 Toyota Rav4 was stolen from a home on Robinson Street North Saturday night, in addition to several personal items that were inside the vehicle, including a set of stolen golf clubs.

Investigators say an ad was posted on Facebook Marketplace Sunday featuring golf clubs that matched the description of the stolen clubs.

Detectives arranged to purchase the clubs and were provided with the address of a home on King Street East in Hamilton.

Police executed a search warrant Monday at the home, where the suspect allegedly attempted to flee the residence by jumping from a balcony on the second floor.

Officers were able to arrest the suspect at around 7:25 p.m.

Inside the home, investigators recovered the golf clubs and returned them to their rightful owner.

The stolen Toyota Rav4 was recovered by Hamilton police the next day.

Officers charged 29-year-old Bekim Dzemailji for the offence of trafficking property obtained by crime under $5,000, and for failing to comply with a probation order.

Dzemailji remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a St. Catharines courthouse on June 1.

Detectives say they located and seized a Scion vehicle key in the house, which is believed to possibly belong to a stolen vehicle.
