Patients possibly exposed to improperly sterilized tools at Hamilton dentist office

Hamilton Public Health Services (HPHS) says patients of “Dentistry at Fennell & Ottawa,” located at 1134-A Fennell Ave. East may have been exposed to improperly sterilized instruments.
Public health is advising anyone who received treatment at the practice between July 25, 2019 and Feb. 20, 2025 to consult their primary care provider, or visit a walk-in clinic to discuss testing for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV and other blood-borne infections.
City staff say no cases of blood-borne infections have been linked to the dental office at this time, and risk is considered low.
HPHS completed an on-site investigation of the practice on Feb. 20, following an infection prevention and control complaint.
Corrective action was taken, and the location meets the required infection prevention and control standards as of Feb. 24.
Anyone with questions or concerns are asked to contact HPHS by calling 905-546-2424 ext. 7970 or by emailing infectious.disease@hamilton.ca
