A sexual assault investigation by Hamilton police has led to the arrest of a local church leader.

On Wednesday, police arrested 51-year Duane Thorne, of Smithville. He has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.

Police say they launched an investigation earlier this month after a victim came forward.

The victim reported a number of sexual assault incidents that allegedly took place between the years 2012 and 2016.

Police say Thorne was a leader at Victory International Church at 2799 Barton St. East during that timeframe. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board.

Investigators believe there may be more victims.

Anyone with information that could help police with the investigation is asked to contact Det. Const. Shannon McLean at 905-546-4614.
