One of Hamilton’s most popular bakeries has announced that the business is going up for sale.

In a social media post made on Wednesday, Cake and Loaf officially announced that the business is looking for a new owner.

In the post, the current owners Josie Rudderham and Nickey Miller say they are hoping to find a buyer to keep their Dundurn St. location as a bakery going forward.

The duo is looking to find someone to inherit their “small corner of the world” and bring the passion that the business has become loved for.

This announcement comes a few months after Rudderham and Miller spoke with CHCH about struggles to stay afloat with inflation rates after the pandemic.

From the cost of ingredients, and altered shopping habits, to financial aid through the heat of the pandemic drying up Cake and Loaf worked to keep its doors open as circumstances challenged their ability to do so.

As the bakery worked to combat pandemic hits, its owners were forced to close its second location in the Hamilton Farmers Market and to shrink its staff from 31 to just nine.

Despite the cuts, Rudderham and Miller remained committed to providing the best employment possible for their team of nine and upped income to a living wage.

The team had announced the launch of a second cookbook and province-wide shipping in March to aid in financial struggles.

Josie Rudderham and Nickey Miller started Cake and Loaf over a decade ago and had a goal of being good employers and community members.

The bakery is currently closed for its annual summer closure, but will reopen on July 19.
