Halton police make arrest, seize drugs and guns after $150k fraud investigation

Halton police have arrested and charged one person after an investigation into fraud worth more than $150,000.

Officials say the investigation began in March 2024 after police were tipped off to a series of fraudulent withdrawals from an HSBC branch in Burlington. One person was arrested and charged, but the investigation remained ongoing as police believed another person was involved.

On June 26, police executed a search warrant at the home of a second suspect in Vaughn. During the search, officers seized a large quantity of psilocybin and a .22 calibre rifle.

Andrew Meeks, 41, of Vaughn has been charged with the following:

Fraud over $5,000

Possession of a Schedule III substance

Careless use of a firearm

Unauthorized possession of a firearm

Breach of a firearm prohibition order
