Haldimand OPP investigating after emu allegedly killed by trespassers
Haldimand OPP are investigating after two people allegedly trespassed on a property near Fisherville and injured an emu to such an extent that it died.
Police say they were called around 11 a.m. Wednesday for reports of animal cruelty overnight at an address on Haldimand Road 20 near Fisherville.
It was determined that two suspects damaged a fence on the property between 3 and 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, gaining access to a closed animal pen.
Once inside, the suspects allegedly injured an emu “by unknown means,” causing its death, before fleeing the area.

Police say they are currently reviewing video surveillance footage in hopes of identifying those responsible.
“Causing unnecessary suffering to an animal is a criminal offence that carries a penalty of up to five years in jail upon conviction,” Halidmand OPP say.
