Testimony continued for a 10th day at a coroners inquest into the death of Guy Mitchell, a 38 year old man with special needs who drowned in a large water tank located on the property of his caretaker in Ancaster.

Jury members saw photo’s of the house where Mitchell lived today, images that show deplorable conditions and pictures of Mitchell looking neglected and injured. They also heard that based on these photo’s, the Children’s Aid Society decided to launch an investigation into Mitchell’s care giver but he died just 2 days later.

On April 29th 2012, Mitchell was found dead in a water tank. It is believed that he was asked to fetch some water, and fell in. When police arrived, it was reported that the house had no running water, no heat, and that the toilets were overflowing with human waste.

Because this is an inquest and not a trial, the 5 person jury will not place blame but make recommendations designed to avoid deaths like this in the future. It will continue with the final 2 witnesses tomorrow.
