Gunfire, smoke expected during police training Thursday in St. Catharines

Niagara police are telling people to expect a heavy police presence and the sound of gunfire in an area of St. Catharines on Thursday as members of the force participate in training.
The emergency task unit will be conducting indoor training in the area of Riordon St. and Gale Crescent between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Police say people in the area may see a number of police officers, hear the sound of simulated gunfire and smell smoke.

Traffic in the immediate area should not be affected and there will be signage regarding the training.
Officers are asking members of the public and media to avoid the training sites for everyone’s safety.
