A Grimsby woman used her skills as a blogger and contest queen to deliver a huge donation to Grimsby Benevolent Fund Food Bank.

Elaine Douglas entered an online contest where Marinelli Pasta Sauces of Niagara Falls offered the winner $10,000 worth of sauces which would be given to their local food bank. That’s 1200 jars of premium sauce.

The food bank in Grimsby serves about 250 households every month. Marinelli asked contestants why their local food bank deserved the donation.

“I wrote a little blurb up, and I let all my friends in the community know about this amazing contest, had others vote for GBF as well, and I ended up winning. When I entered it, it was something I knew I had to win and sometimes you get this feeling that ‘this one’s mine, I’m going to have this one.'”

Using her website strictlycanadian.ca Douglas has helped others in need. Her next project will be raising money for Gillian’s Place, a women’s shelter in St Catharines. Last year she raised $700 and filled a car with donations for a single mother and her children.
