Good Samaritan punched while trying to help dog

An Oakville woman has been charged after a Good Samaritan was punched while trying to help a dog.

According to police, several people reported seeing a woman kicking a dog in the chest and stomach near Lakeshore Rd. W and Nelson Street Monday night, leading some to intervene.

The animal was on a leash and not acting aggressively, police said.

One of the people who stepped in was punched in the face.

Responding officers arrested 50-year-old Stephanie Moore and transferred her dog into the care of a relative.

She is charged with assault and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and for being intoxicated in a public place.
