A former police officer in California dubbed the “Golden State Killer” has pleaded guilty to 13 counts of murder.

Joseph James DeAngelo Jr.  made the plea as part of a deal for a life sentence instead of the death penalty.

He admitted dozens of rapes and other crimes too old to be prosecuted.

All told, DeAngelo admitted to 161 crimes involving 48 people.

DeAngelo had never been on investigators’ radar until just before his arrest in 2018.

Genealogy DNA helped lead investigators to him.
