Norfolk County OPP are thanking a Good Samaritan for rescuing a child who drifted away from shore at Long Point.

Officers were called to Erie Blvd. around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

A seven-year-old girl was in the water on an inflatable floating device when she drifted out about 1 km from the shoreline.

Police say as emergency crews arrived on scene, a passing paddle boarder brought the girl back to shore.

She was not injured.

“The OPP would like to thank the Good Samaritan that recognized that this young girl was in trouble and immediately brought her back to shore,” said OPP Const Ed Sanchuk.

He’s reminding parents to stay within an arm’s reach of their kids while they are playing in water.
