Halton police have arrested a Georgetown man after a pair of robberies connected to Facebook Marketplace transactions.

Investigators say the first robbery took place on May 4 after the victim arranged to purchase a cell phone and then met the seller in the area of Stevens Crescent in Georgetown.

The victim was looking at the phone when the man pulled out a handgun and robbed them of their cash.

A second robbery took place on May 7 and followed a similar pattern.

The second victim arranged to purchase an iPhone through Facebook Marketplace and then met the seller in the same area of Stevens Crescent.

During the transaction, the suspect showed the victim a gun and then fled with cash and the phone.

Officers say that in both cases a fake Facebook profile was used to arrange the robbery.

Authorities say that neither victim was physically hurt in the robberies.

Detectives were able to identify the suspect and arrest him on May 12 in Georgetown. At the time of his arrest, investigators recovered a black Glock-style BB gun.
