Hamilton police are investigating a hate crime at a business in the area of James Street North and Murray Street West earlier this month.

On Sept. 11 police received a report after hate-motivated graffiti was discovered on a building.

Surveillance video captured a man spray-painting a Hakenkreuz, commonly known as the Nazi swastika.

The suspect is described as having a medium build and facial hair. He was wearing a light-coloured long-sleeve shirt with number 99 on the front and back.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help to identify the individual in the CCTV video, seen here.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Hate Crime Unit at 905-546-5511 or email hatecrime@hamiltonpolice.ca.

Hate-motivated graffiti is more than property damage say Hamilton police: “It is an attack on the dignity and safety of the community,” a statement reads.
