The U.S. federal government has recognized Joe Biden as the winner of the election.

The head of the General Services Administration in Washington says she has “ascertained” that Joe Biden is the apparent winner of this month’s U.S. presidential election.

The declaration finally clears the way for the U.S. federal government to begin working with the democratic president-elect’s transition team.

Among other things, the ascertainment process gives the incoming president and his team access to officials at federal agencies and directs the Justice Department to work on security clearances for transition team members and Biden political appointees.

President Donald Trump still refuses to concede.
