Temperatures in the region could dip below zero overnight Friday and that could put gardens and crops at risk. In fact it would be 46 years since we’ve had frost this late in may should the cold stuff touch down tonight.

Brittany Gogo planted herself at Terra Greenhouses in Waterdown to find out what kind of damage the frost can do to your garden this time of year.

A spokesperson says covering your plants with a tarp or cloth can help. Putting a pot over them with a rock on top so they don’t blow away could also do the trick. They also say watering plants tonight before you tuck in can help the plants make it through the cold. As well, any hanging plants can be brought into sheds or garages until the sun shines again tomorrow.

The frost warning extends across Southern Ontario. Areas near the great lakes have a better chance of seeing temperatures hovering above zero.
