Hope was faint but the search for a missing 47-year old Hamilton man has come to a heart-breaking conclusion with the recovery of his body from a Binbrook lake. Peter Simon drowned training for a triathlon last week.
John Atkinson and Christian Gundlack often ran with Simon, a boisterous bundle of energy, who was always looking for something new: “His philosophy was not to do a race more than once. He’d done that. He’d experienced it, and I think, that’s just who he was. He liked life experiences.”
Peter had been training all winter in a pool to prepare for a triathlon, another new experience. He was athletic and mastered many activities with ease which is why his sudden death came as such a shock, to family and friends. John talked to him roughly 20 minutes before he went into the lake, and it would seem that even near the end his love of people, was always the first thing on his mind.
“People would ask a lot of questions about his running, and his athleticism, but that was just an activity. How he lived his life was that he was a great friend, and that how he lived to be with people and do for others and that was what Peter was all about. “
