France, U.K. and Germany call for ceasefire in Gaza as civilian toll rises

France, the United Kingdom and Germany are among the countries that joined in on the global call for a ceasefire after Israeli troops killed three unarmed hostages over the weekend who were waving a white flag.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists that the Israeli military will keep fighting until Hamas is destroyed and all hostages are returned.
Washington is also expressing growing unease with civilian casualties, despite providing the military and diplomatic support needed to sustain the war and vetoing a call for a cease-fire at the United Nations earlier this month.
The United States’ defence secretary arrived in Israel Monday morning to discuss the ongoing war.
The UN Security Council is expected to gather today to vote for a ceasefire in Gaza to allow for humanitarian aid to access the Gaza strip.
