Former Speaker testifies before committee

Former House of Commons Speaker Peter Milliken is the first person to testify before an Ontario Legislative Committee looking into the cancelled gas plants in Oakville and Mississauga.

Milliken is an expert witness in the opposition’s contempt motion against the Liberals for initially refusing to release documents on the cancelled projects. The liberals claimed pre-maturely releasing the documents could have hurt its negotiating position with the developers of the plants, which cost taxpayers $230 million. But Milliken says they could have let the committee view the documents without making them public.
