Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor – formerly known as Prince Andrew – has allegedly been arrested at his Sandringham, U.K. estate home Thursday on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
Thames Valley Police say they have arrested a 60-something man who remains in custody while searches are carried out at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk.
Investigators have not confirmed the arrested man’s identity and say they will not be doing so “as per national guidance.”
Officers are investigating allegations he shared sensitive information with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during his time as the U.K.’s Trade Envoy, and claims of a sexual trafficking encounter involving Epstein.
King Charles has posted a statement in response to the investigation: “What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation.”
