A century-old former dairy building in Hamilton’s north end has just found a new owner and the historic structure is about to get a new lease on life, as affordable housing.

Just this morning the sale closed on a former dairy, and Indwell took over. A Hamilton group that has increasingly been turning properties like this into affordable housing for some of the most vulnerable homeless in the city.

They are just in the stages of determining how much of the structure they can save so they don’t know what the final project will look like yet. Judging from the other projects Indwell has created and is creating in the city this site is in for a very useful makeover.

Even though it’s still at the design stage Indwell expects people will be moving into this former dairy in about three years.

These projects are not sustainable on their own, not with rents as low as $500 a month, Indwell says it’s only able to build these homes with funds from government and donations from other people who care.
