Forestry summit in Vancouver to address U.S. tariffs

Politicians from British Columbia and Ottawa will meet in Vancouver Monday for a forestry summit on how to tackle American fees and tariffs topping 50 per cent in the industry.

Federal politicians including trade minister Dominic LeBlanc and B.C. Premier David Eby will discuss ways to support businesses and workers affected.

British Columbia’s goal from the summit is to press for more federal help for the industry.

The forestry sector employs tens of thousands of workers in the province.

The softwood lumber dispute between the United States and Canada has been a heated topic for decades, with the U.S. imposing duties alleging Canada subsidizes its industry.
