Ford’s apology not accepted

Rob Ford apologized for his actions once again today after making lewd comments during a media scrum this morning.

Toronto’s mayor denied telling a female staffer he wanted to perform a sex act on her, stunning reporters — many of whom were on live television — with his choice language. Ford was reacting to yesterday’s release of court documents, where several former staffers and a waiter at a restaurant accuse the mayor of cocaine use, driving drunk and engaging in inappropriate behaviour with sex workers while in office.

The mayor’s comments reverberated around city hall, with councillors such as Denzil Minnan-Wong continuing the calls for him to step aside.

“I have a message for the mayor: apology not accepted. He’s crossed the line, he’s used language that is completely inappropriate. He says that, he’s suggested that he’s driven while he’s intoxicated. You know what, he’s crossed the line and he has to go. He doesn’t represent the values of the city, he doesn’t represent council’s values.”

“The mayor needs to resign, he needs to step aside. This has to end, and the province has to step in because council cannot remove him.”

Ford says he will pursue legal action against the former staffers, and has warned the media to be careful with what is published.
