The Pan Am games are fast approaching and today CHCH News got a look inside the athletes’ village.
The village is located just west of the Don Valley Parkway in Toronto. It will serve as home base for 10,000 athletes competing in both the Pan Am and Parapan Am games. It features five apartment buildings with over 2600 bedrooms.
Saad Rafi, the CEO of Toronto 2015 told CHCH News, “Every athlete I’ve spoken to has said almost the same thing is that this generation of athletes has never had a chance to compete at home with friends and family nearby.”
“They might get to get on a plane to go and see them somewhere else in the world, so I think that gives them a bit of a leg up to just say, ‘OK, I’ve got to show up, I’ve really got to put my best foot forward’ and we’re trying to create the field of play that will allow them to do that.”
McMaster University is also serving as a satellite athletes’ village for soccer players.
