Victoria Day long-weekend is one of the biggest weekends of the year for fireworks, which is why Hamilton’s fire department is reminding people to be safe and follow the rules.
Fireworks can only be set off on your own property, and only within two days of Victoria Day.
Hamilton Fire also says that people should check the area where they will be setting off the fireworks to make sure that it is clear of overhanging tree branches and electrical wires.
As a Pyrotechnic, Michael Clarke is an expert when it comes to fireworks, he works with the explosions all the time but still stresses the importance of safety.
“Most people see fire works toys,” Clarke says ” But they are very dangerous and they can cause a lot of damage.”
Clarke also advises to fire away from the crowd, and into the prevailing wind so that the smoke and debris stay away from spectators.
