Fire leads to knockdown of Niagara Falls squat house

Demolition has begun on a house torched in a suspicious fire Wednesday morning.

Just hours after Niagara Falls firefighters put out a suspicious blaze on the ground floor of the vacant house, demolition crews moved in.
The house at 4875 Drummond Road has been vacant for months, and has been occupied at times by vagrants.
A few years ago, a marijuana grow op was found in the basement.
Niagara Falls deputy fire chief Jim Jessop calls it a serious safety hazard. He successfully made his case for demolition to the court.
The property owner is now obligated to pay for the teardown, which could cost upwards of $15,000.
