Fire destroys one unit in apartment building in downtown Hamilton

A fire destroyed one unit of an apartment building in downtown Hamilton.

Police and fire crews say it started around 1:00 a.m. on Monday in the seventh floor unit of a building on Bay Street South near Duke Street.

The fire was contained to one unit.

The building was evacuated as a safety precaution and no injuries were reported.

The Ontario Fire Marshall has been called in to investigate.
