Police say a fire at the former Brock University campus in Hamilton’s east end appears suspicious.
On Thursday at around 8 p.m., firefighters responded to a structure fire at 1842 King St. E near Kenilworth Avenue.
First arriving crews reported a building that appeared to be under a state of demolition with heavy smoke and fire.
Fire crews say a defensive strategy was initially taken and aerial operations were put into place.
Firefighters say efforts continued until the fire was extinguished and a fire watch was established until around 4 a.m.
Crews say there was nobody found in the building and no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
The cause of the blaze is undetermined but fire officials say the estimated damage is around $50,000.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Cst. Blundson at 905-540-5085.
Information can also be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Hamilton online or at 1-800-222-8477.
