Festival moving to Fairgrounds
Hamilton’s Festival of Friends has outgrown Gage Park and is moving to Ancaster.
The announcement ends a 35-year relationship between Ontario’s largest free music festival and the east Hamilton park. Organizers are moving to the Ancaster Fairgrounds at highways 53 and 52.
Parking and the protection of trees in Gage Park had become an issue. The festival had more than 50,000 people at one concert in 2009. Councillor Bernie Morelli, whose ward includes Gage Park, says plans are in the works for smaller music events to be held there throughout the summer.
