Canadian student visa crackdown hits Indian applicants hard

Canada’s federal visa crackdown on international students has hit Indian applicants particularly hard.

According to immigration department data obtained by Reuters news agency, about 74 per cent of post-secondary applications originating in India were rejected in August.

The figure is up from 32 per cent of application rejections in August 2023.

The immigration department says Canada received over 1,500 study permit applications that they linked to fraudulent acceptance letters — most of which originated in India.
