Fatal shooting prompts lockdown at Brantford General Hospital
A 34-year-old Brantford man is dead following a shooting near Brantford General Hospital. Friends on social media has identified the man as Jeffrey Maxner.
The shooting happened near a Rexall pharmacy at the corner of Terrace Hill St. and St. Paul Ave. around 5:30 p.m. Monday.
Reports from the scene last night suggested a woman Maxner was with drove him to the emergency department across the road after he was gunned down. The red pick up truck then became part of the crime scene. Forensic officers were examining the tires and once it was tagged, it was towed away by Brantford Police.
The shooting happened just steps away from the hospital which sent Brantford General into a lockdown also known as Code Silver and staff are going around the units in the hospital to analyze their response to the lockdown which lasted nearly 2 hours.
Nearly a dozen officers were out talking to neighbours, businesses, hospital staff and using a drone to search the crime scene where Jeffery Maxner was fatally shot.
Despite neighbours being concerned for their safety police say there’s no risk to the public.
The motive behind this shooting remains unclear. Police have not released a suspect description at this time. They say no arrests have been made.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Detective Amber Jackson of the Major Crime Unit at 519-756- 7050, ext. 2271.
