The family of an indigenous woman is asking for a finding of homicide in the woman’s death in a St. Catharines hospital four years ago. They say Heather Winterstein went to the hospital twice for help but didn’t get the life-saving treatment she needed because of who she was. Lawyers for Heather’s family presented their final submission Monday as the inquest into her death winds down. They say the actions of some health care professionals or the lack of action that delayed treatment amount to homicide, an injury or omission that causes or contributes to death.
