Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Kirby Dick won praise for his film The Invisible War, an exposé on sexual abuse in the U.S. military. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary, but more importantly, it opened up discussion of sexual assault in the military at the highest levels of the U.S. government. New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand introduced the Military Justice Improvement Act in 2013, partly inspired by what she saw in the movie.
The Hunting Ground is in part a spiritual sequel to The Invisible War, this time shedding light on sexual abuse on American college campuses. We sat down with him to discuss this new documentary.
