International pushback is growing against incoming U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial claims on acquiring Canada, the Panama Canal, and Greenland.

Some of Europe’s powerhouses responded, saying they are prepared to impose retaliatory tariffs or even consider military measures after the president-elect didn’t rule out “use of force” to absorb sovereign territories.

The Danish territory of Greenland has reiterated that “it is not for sale.”

National security concerns and economic interests appear to underpin Trump’s expansionist agenda.

When speaking specifically about Greenland, he invoked China and Russia as factors influencing his position.
