Erin O’Toole wins Conservative leadership race
Erin O’Toole is the new leader of the federal Conservative party.
He was declared the winner of the leadership race early Monday morning.
Technical problems delayed the vote results by hours, as thousands of ballots had to be replicated by hand after the counting machine shredded their envelopes.
After three rounds of counting, O’Toole won with 57 per cent of the vote.
Peter MacKay, who had been seen as the establishment candidate, won 43 per cent.
O’Toole has to get a team in place before Parliament returns next month.
