A former NHL star whose career was hampered by concussions is publicly supporting a proposed Ontario bill to improve concussion protocols in Ontario youth sports.

Eric Lindros joined MPP Lisa MacLeod in Toronto to promote Rowan’s Law, a private member’s bill named for 17-year-old, Rowan Stringer, died in 2013 after suffering a string of concussions while playing high school rugby in Ottawa.

Rowan’s Law would create an expert advisory committee to help implement the recommendations a coroner’s jury in Rowan Stringer’s death, including making concussion awareness mandatory in the Ontario curriculum.

During his NHL career, Lindros himself suffered from several concussions.

Lindros eventually retired in 2007 at the age of 34.

The bill still needs its third reading before becoming law.
