Environment Canada tracking severe thunderstorm across southern Ontario

Environment Canada says they are tracking a severe thunderstorm across parts of southern Ontario that is producing tornado.

They add that damaging winds, large hail and intense rainfall are also possible.

At this time, the meteorological service says the reported tornado location was over Burgessville, Ont., with a second tornado location in Springford, Ont. They say the tornado is moving quickly to the east at 80 km per hour.

Winds are being reported at speeds of 110 to 130 km per hour with hail up to 2.5 cm in size.

The following are locations in the expected path of the tornado:

  • Norwich
  • Otterville
  • Princeton
  • Teeterville
  • Burford
  • Scotland
  • Waterford
  • County of Brant
  • Brantford

Environment Canada says “this is a very dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.”

The weather service is advising that those in the impacted area take cover in a basement, interior room or a sturdy shelter. If no shelter is available, they say to lie in a low spot and protect you head from flying debris.
