Elliot Lake inquiry

It is week two of the inquiry into the deadly mall roof collapse in Elliot Lake.

The man who designed the Algo Centre Mall says he didn’t like the idea of putting a parking deck on the roof. He told the inquiry that the owner of the mall, Bob Nazarian, felt it was the best and cheapest option. The inquiry also has a written statement from the mall’s former manager who alleges Nazarian took “shortcuts” with maintenance and had no regard for public safety. The roof collapsed in June last year, killing two women and injuring several others.
