East end Hamilton residents pick up needles from rail track area

A group of Hamilton residents spent part of the weekend cleaning up needles near rail tracks.
Nicole Barati posted a picture of the discarded needles on the Facebook group East End Hamilton Neighbourhood Watch on Thursday.
The photo was taken near the rail tracks off of Birch Ave. near Princess St.

She went back to the area on Saturday with a few others.
“There are children, animals all over. You don’t want anybody getting hurt,” Barati said.
They spent over two hours cleaning up the area and estimate they picked up over 2,000 needles.
This isn’t her first time doing this. Barati picked up needles in the area last year too.
She says she’s seen more needles this year.
“We still didn’t get them all but we’re working on it,” she said in a Facebook post.
