Earth to Echo

Earth to Echo is a science-fiction adventure directed by Dave Green. The story follows a group of three best friends – Tuck, Munch, and Alex – who are being forced apart by a highway development project moving through their area. One day they all start receiving cryptic messages on their cell phones, which they take as a call to one last adventure together. The clues lead them to a crash landed alien that needs the kid’s help to find it’s way back home. The film stars Teo Halm, Brian “Astro” Bradley, Reese Hartwig, and Ella Linnea Wahlestedt.
Earth to Echo is a new take on the classic “kids having an adventure” genre of films (think E.T., The Goonies). According to Green, “The movie is really about this group of kids and how they have to say goodbye to each other. There’s something bittersweet about the fact they’re spending their last night together. But is goodbye really goodbye? In our movie, it’s not. It’s a beginning.” The movie also takes on the popular format of using found footage, but not in the raw, grainy way we normally see it. “We wanted to lean into the idea that Tuck not only shot the whole thing, he’s also cut the whole thing, and he’s put music to it when he feels like it’s necessary, and he’s put titles in there, and he can pause the movie, and he can interject.” Definitely sound like an engaging spin on the overdone technique.
Earth to Echo is rated PG.
