Dwight Duncan stepping down
Long time provincial finance minister not ruling out federal run.
Dwight Duncan has announced he’ll resign his cabinet post Monday and leave his Windsor-Tecumseh seat effective Valentine’s Day, clearing the way for a byelection.
It’s no surprise as Duncan, who supported Sandra Pupatello, had made it clear during the Ontario Liberal leadership race that he intended to resign soon.
And he had said he didn’t want to stay in cabinet because premier-designate Kathleen Wynne needs a new team to lead the government.
She’ll be sworn in Monday.
As for what’s next, Duncan says he wants to help Justin Trudeau become next leader of the federal Liberals and that he is open to possibly running federally.
