Dubnyk, Drewiske new dogs in the pound

With Carey Price on injured reserve, his status day-to-day and the days keep adding up, the Montreal Canadiens added to their goaltending depth yesterday acquiring Devan Dubnyk. He has 171 games of NHL experience – but for now, he’s a Hamilton Bulldog.

Dubnyk is used to being the new kid. The Canadiens acquired the five-year NHL veteran just before Wednesday’s trade deadline, and Dubnyk couldn’t happier to be in Hamilton.

“There’s no letdown, no disappointment. It’s just working to get back to where I want to be, where everybody else here wants to be… happy to be in this organization, no disappointment that way.”

Dubnyk’s arrival has created a goalie glut in the Canadiens’ organization.

Dustin Tokarski proved last night that he’s capable of assisting Peter Budaj in Montreal while Carey Price is on the injured reserve, while Robert Mayer and Mike Condon had to share a net during today’s practice in Hamilton.

For now, head coach Sylvain Lefebvre says there’s only one place for Dubnyk: “Montreal went to get him for a reason, and he’s gonna play tomorrow.”

And he won’t be the only new face. The Habs placed Davis Drewiske on waivers Monday, and he arrived in Hamilton on Tuesday. The 29 year old defenceman had shoulder surgery last summer, and hasn’t played yet this season — but that’s about to change.

“I’m good, yah, healthy and excited to play some games.”

He’ll be playing three in three nights this weekend, and wants to make an impact right away.
