A Waterdown man, who’s lived a rural lifestyle for 30 years, says he isn’t living in the country anymore. Rob Brown and his son, who’s blind, have become virtually boxed into their own house due to the rapid growth of the community around him.

Due to construction of as new daycare centre, Brown doesn’t have an address anymore. What’s worse, is that he doesn’t have a driveway either and that’s a serious problem. “I have a handicapped son I have a handicapped brother, my car is in the garage I can’t get it out.”

For 30 years Rob shared this driveway with his neighbour, it’s now owned privately by the daycare. The centre’s owner told CHCH that once she bought the property more than a year ago Brown knew the driveway wasn’t partially his anymore, meaning he and his blind son had to find another way in.

Brown was denied a permit to build a new driveway to nearby Perrelli street. Hamilton Public Works says they’ll look into the matter but said that the length of the job, proximity to other homes and by-laws protecting older trees could have been determining factors. Brown ruled out building another driveway to Culotta Drive, he owns that land and looks to build on it in the future.
