Drivers beware: motorcycles are coming out

When a bike meets a car at an intersection, the motorcyclist doesn’t have a chance.

The man riding his bike on the QEW at Thorold Stone last evening was lucky. He sideswiped a transport and ended up with road rash and a broken wrist.

A 42 year old alliston man was killed last night near barrie when he crashed his bike on the 400. And hours earlier another motorcylist was critically injured when he slammed into the side of a car that had turned left in front of him))

Willem DeGroote was fortunate enough to walk away from a similar collision. A pick up had pulled out in front of him in Niagara-on-the-Lake. “I tried to swerve around the pickup truck. It worked partially. He hit us in the back of the bike.”

De Groote landed in the ditch.

Aaron Kore of Niagara Race Crafters bike shop says there are so many hazards on the roads for motorcycles. “Many circumstances whether it’s another car that pulled out or turned in front of them or gravel or debris on the road.”

In the year he’s been riding Brian Jolie has had two mishaps “through combined inexperience and again debris on the road.”

That’s why police are warning both car and truck drivers to watch out for low profile motorcycles and for motorcyclists to be prepared when they take their bikes out on the road for the first time this season.

“They want to get their bike checked out first. Make sure it’s in proper working order. Seals are dried out. Want to make sure the brakes are all working.”
